The Oakland County Pioneer and Historical Society is an independent, non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to preserving Oakland County's heritage and to maintaining Pine Grove as a registered national and state historic site. We are not supported by tax dollars or any municipality, but instead rely upon program fees, membership dues, grants, and support from businesses and citizens to carry out our mission. We are a 501(c)3 organization and as such, gifts are tax deductible in accordance with applicable law. Please see below for how you can help support the Society!

I. GIFTS OF MATERIAL OR ARTIFACTS: We will gladly consider donations of historical material pertaining to Oakland County's people, places, and events. This could include artifacts as well as written documents, photographs, and books. However, some items may already be included in our collections, may be difficult to properly store or display, or may not be deemed relevant to our collections needs. We ask that potential donors contact us to arrange a consultation with a member of our accessions committee prior to bringing items to Pine Grove. Accepted donations will be acknowledged for tax purposes, although OCPHS does not designate a monetary value. If we cannot accept an item, we often can recommend an alternative organization or use, making the consultation worthwhile to both OCPHS and the donor.

II. MONETARY GIFTS: Monetary support is critical to our daily operations and to maintaining our historic structures and our research library and archives. When making a donation, please tell us how you'd like it used, by selecting from the following:

a. Greatest Need: Currently general operations--our expenses for utilities, insurance, office supplies, repairs and maintenance, and other costs of keeping our doors open to our members and the public.

b. Endowment: Donations support the Society in perpetuity. The principal is left intact and invested, to generate interest earnings for the Society's needs.

c. House/Museum: Donations cover improvements, repairs, displays, preservation, or other needs related specifically to the Wisner Home, Drayton Plains Schoolhouse, or Pioneer Museum.

d. Library/Archives: Gifts support preservation, display, retrieval, additions to, or enhancement of our library and archival collections.

e. Public Accommodations: This fund, for which General Motors is a major donor, enhances the overall property and accommodations at Pine Grove for the benefit of the community. Fencing, walkways, canopies and tables, tree trimming, and other such needs are examples of this fund's uses. A long term goal is to raise sufficient monies to construct a building with handicapped-accessible restrooms, exhibit, and meeting space.

f. Annual Giving: Our once-per-year appeal for support, mailed to members in the Spring. This appeal provides critical revenue for general operations.

g. Event Sponsorship: Support our Summer Social or Victorian Open House with an event sponsorship. Sponsors are acknowledged on the program and on signage posted at the events. Sponsorships are available in increments of $25 each, from $25 to $500--you choose the level you'd prefer. Sponsorships provide an extra measure of support to the Society!

h. Other: Please specify if you would like to designate your gift for a purpose not listed above.

All monetary donations are acknowledged for income tax purposes, and are greatly appreciated. Donations may be made securely on-line via the "Donate" button below, or by mail, payable to OCPHS.
