The Gloria Dei Gazebo

Our gazebo, centrally located in our grove of pine trees, was donated to the historical society by longtime society member, the late Ray Lucas, in 2018.

It was originally located on the grounds of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church at 2600 Pontiac Road in Auburn Hills, where it centered a memorial garden for members of their congregation. Bricks engraved with church member names, living or deceased, were also part of that garden.

When the church was dissolved, the bricks and a large number of paving stones were carefully (and laboriously) removed from their place at the church and stored at our historical society. In May of 2018, through a generous donation, the gazebo was relocated to our grounds. The bricks were then placed around it.

In 2021, the gazebo was restored with funds from another donation (although it still needs some work) and in 2026, Oakland County paid for the installation of electrical service to the structure, allowing it to be lighted.

Today, the gazebo sits quietly on our grounds and is used for events such as weddings, concerts or even just a quiet moment surrounded by trees.
