The Oakland History Center at Pine Grove has closed for the winter season. While our grounds and library are closed to the public, we continue to take research questions, offer resources through our website, and our online store remains open.

We have a lot to do. Some renovations, a lot of planning, and developing new ways to present our amenities to you – how to display our collections and wonderful home with social distancing in mind, how to offer resources to you using social media, our website, and other means.

We wish you and yours the very best in this holiday season. Check back with us in the spring.

Stay tuned, and please consider becoming a Bicentennial Sustainer and supporting our society with a monthly donation.

Are you doing research on Oakland County’s cities, towns, or families? Let us help.

Welcome to the Oakland County Pioneer and Historical
Society and Pine Grove Historical Museum!

We are the oldest county-based historical society in Michigan, and are open to all with an interest in history. We’re an independent, self-sustaining non-profit organization, founded in 1874 by the area’s pioneers. We are entrusted with remembering the lives, lessons, and legacies of those who came before us.

Pine Grove Historical Museum is named for Governor Moses Wisner’s homestead, where we have made our headquarters since 1945, after acquiring it from the Wisner family. The Museum offers tours, events, research, and historical programs.

Annual events here include the July Summer Social and the December Victorian Open House, both featuring tours, entertainment, exhibits, and activities for all ages.

Throughout the year we present our Mini-Lecture series – informal, engaging lectures by local presenters on a wide variety of topics.

We are committed to:

  • Conveying the role of Oakland County, Michigan in the evolution of American History.
  • Maintaining Pine Grove, the 19th century homestead of Michigan’s 12th governor, Moses Wisner.
  • Operating Pine Grove Historical Museum for the education and benefit of the community.
  • Preserving the past for the enrichment of future generations.
